About Me
I was born and raised on a small family farm outside of Avella in Washington County, PA. I graduated cum laude from Allegheny College in 2002 majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Music.
In 2006, I earned my Doctorate of Osteopathy from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where I met my husband, Dr. Matthew Flanagan (Sports Medicine with AHN). We moved to Allentown, PA where we completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine in 2009 at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Matt and I have been happily married since 2007 and are blessed with two beautiful boys. My sons are my greatest joy in life. In my spare time, I love cooking (and eating ;-), playing the piano and watching my sons play sports.
Experience
I worked as a hospitalist for 6 years before transitioning to an outpatient internal medicine office in 2015. It didn’t take long to see the problems inherent to primary care. Employed physicians are pressured to see more patients in less time to maximize profits. Additionally, we are tasked with an overwhelming amount of non-clinical, administrative work that has less to do with taking care of patients and more to do with data entry and checking regulatory boxes imposed on us by hospital administrators and insurance companies. In traditional healthcare, quantity is valued over quality. The results are patients feel rushed, not all of their health problems are addressed, there is no time to discuss preventative measures and you can’t schedule a sick visit when you need one. These issues lead to physician burnout because we truly want to deliver the best care we can, but have lost our autonomy. The current health system is failing both patients and physicians. So in September 2019, I decided to make a change by resigning from my employed position to create my own medical practice- one without the complexity of our current, broken system. I wanted something simpler: a doctor, a patient, trust and mutual respect.
Hence, Simplicity DPC was born.
Healthcare Reimagined
What if you had a PCP who had time to LISTEN to you and didn’t make you feel rushed through the visit? Imagine having a PCP who knew your medical history and read through your chart BEFORE your visit. What if your primary care physician was available to see you when you’re actually sick so you didn’t have to go to an Urgent Care? Imagine not waiting for 30+ minutes prior to your appointment and ALWAYS seeing YOUR physician. What if you could get significantly discounted labs? Now imagine having direct access to your doctor by phone, text or email because urgent matters may arise on weekends or evenings.
This healthcare model already exists. This is what defines Direct Primary Care.
If this describes the relationship and experience you want with your primary care physician, then choose Simplicity DPC. My primary goal is to work directly with you, leaving the insurance companies and administrators out of the equation, to attain improved health and quality of life for you AND me.
Let’s reimagine healthcare together.
